Now, today I’m going to be talking to you about the entrepreneurial straight jacket. Now, you’re probably wondering what the heck that is. Well, let me roll back the time a little bit for you, so let’s go back to when you first got into owning your own business. This is that magical day where you start thinking that heck, I can do this a whole lot better than my boss, because he’s an idiot, right? He doesn’t know how to make money, he doesn’t know how to run this business. And you can do a much better job.

Plus, you also look at all the hours you used to work and think you know what, as the boss I can go out and do whatever I want, with whoever I want, and have plenty of money to be able to do that.

Now, I know that’s what was going through your mind. I mean that’s what every business owner … I’ve worked with thousands of business owners in the auto repair space, but also outside the auto repair space. And that’s really what most people think business ownership is all about.

That’s the big dream. Now, as you probably already know, reality is not exactly the same thing, because ultimately you have lost your freedom. When you were an employee, hey, 5, 6 O’clock you punch out, go have a beer, go relax, do whatever you want to do. But you know as being an owner you’re at the shop for a much much longer period of time. You’re working weekends, you’re dealing with that stress. All those sleepless nights. All the things that go into the joys of owning a business. You’re going through that, I know you are. I go through it, every entrepreneur, every business owners goes through the exact same thing.

And it’s almost as if you don’t realize it’s happening. And it’s like overnight, it’s like somebody snuck into your bedroom and grabbed a straight jacket and just slowly slid you into this thing. You’re probably wondering what the heck am I doing with an actual real life straight jacket. Well, it’s because in a not too distant former life I used to travel all over the world speaking on stages and putting on this straight jacket, and ultimately escaping from it on stage as part of my crescendo to what I was doing on stage.

So I have this little baby with me, and it’s well traveled and well worn. And that’s really what I’m going to be talking about on this little mini series of entrepreneurial straight jacket, because I think it’s really important that you do understand that you’re not alone. The issues that you’re going through, the struggles you’re going through, the oh my God what the hell did I get myself into thoughts that are going through your head. That’s totally normal.

So, on the next video we’re going to talk about what you can do to get out of this straight jacket, and get out of it very quickly so that you can get to that point where you really start to love your business again, where your business starts to serve you instead of the other way around.
